NCAA Has The Power To Enact Economic Stimulus Package For College Athletes, Driving Down Student Debt

Higher education is under great pressure to reduce costs of going to college, and the subsequent student loan debt. An obvious way to mitigate that debt burden is for athletes to have the freedom to earn money from their NILs. The vast majority of college athletes and their families pay some or all of their college expenses. Earlier in 2020, Forbes highlighted the issue of college students drowning in loan debt, noting “there are 45 million borrowers who collectively owe nearly $1.6 trillion in student loan debt in the U.S. Student loan debt is now the second highest consumer debt category - behind only mortgage debt - and higher than both credit cards and auto loans.
