Several US-based startups are working on autonomous delivery vehicles with similar scales and form factors. uDelv, AutoX, and Drive.ai are all approaching the same autonomous vehicle delivery problem, albeit based on more standard vehicle and cargo van platforms. Firstly, autonomous delivery vehicles can focus only on the safety of surrounding humans, since no humans are inside the delivery vehicle. Autonomous delivery vehicles also carry less weight and thus use less power, making them less expensive to operate and cheaper to build. Pair that with high demand for same-day delivery, and all of these simplifications make autonomous delivery vehicles attractive - both in China and the United States.
