New Orleans braces for more rain as city works to clean up flood fallout

"Because of the visuals of (Hurricane) Katrina, people keep thinking New Orleans is different than everybody else," the mayor said. Six to 10 inches of rain have fallen in parts of New Orleans over the past week. Even so, Landrieu acknowledged that his city's pumps are not all up to par, the result of limited federal funding and a tight local budget. Randy Davis, manager at the Circle Food Store, mops the floor Monday after the store flooded in weekend storms in New Orleans. Landrieu said he did not know before Saturday's storms that drainage capacity was far below its maximum level in affected neighborhoods.
