New offensive against Lagos environmental defaulters

In a new offensive drive aimed at tackling the environmental challenges, the Lagos State government would soon begin a campaign to recognize efforts of individuals whose activities promote environmental cleanliness in the state. Under the new drive tagged: #HallofFame and #WallofShame, the state will name and shame residents who indulge in reckless waste disposal. Lagos State Management Authority (LAWMA), said the move followed the recent indiscriminate disposal of waste in unauthorized locations in the state by residents, in which some persons caught in the act were arrested and sentenced to community service by a mobile court. She stressed that days of condoning littering and indiscriminate waste disposal in the metropolis were over; adding that apart from carrying out a community service, environmental offenders would be named and shamed, using the agency’s social media handles and other public communication channels. “It also advised Lagosians to promptly contact the Authority using the toll-free line 07080601020, for complaints and relevant information”, the statement added.
