Nigeria’s Rural Electrification Agency (REA) says an agriculture project harnessing mini-grid energy sources will mitigate the impact of the fuel subsidy removal. Linking minigrids and agriculture in Nigeria to catalyse economic growth“The EAP is a unique programme launched in 2022… to catalyse economic development and improve rural livelihoods in Nigeria through linking mini-grids and agricultural productivity. “We find beneficiaries are actively decommissioning diesel-powered and petrol-powered sets to rely on REA’s renewable energy interventions; a more affordable alternative. “Our commercial and community partners are working to ensure these tools are available to communities throughout Nigeria. “Agriculture is the economic backbone of rural Nigerian communities where DERs are often the lowest-cost electrification option.”
