Nigeria: most number of people without access to electricity


Nigeria is the country with the largest number of people without access to electricity, a new report by several international agencies says. “In 2021, the 20 countries with the largest access deficits accounted for 75% of the world’s people lacking electricity access. “The countries with the largest numbers without access were Nigeria (86 million), the Democratic Republic of Congo (76 million) and Ethiopia (55 million). Africa added more hydropower capacity in 2022 than previous yearNigeria will need substantial additional electricity capacity to meet growing demand“The goal of TREP is to support the rehabilitation and upgrade of Nigeria’s electricity transmission substations and lines. TCN has raised over $1.6 billion through TREP.”The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) said about 980,000 electricity customers were metered across the country under the Phase Zero.
