The current version of Nike Inc.’s controversial high-tech Vaporfly sneakers won’t be banned in elite competition, a decision that will fuel further debate about the shoe’s perceived competitive advantage ahead of this summer’s Tokyo Olympics. However, track and field’s world governing body on Friday moved to curb the future escalation of running-shoe technology pioneered by Nike’s Vaporflys, saying the group’s experts found the technology may provide a performance advantage and threaten the integrity of the sport.
