Non-urgent surgeries set to resume at Sudbury hospital

Hospitals in Ontario were forced to halt non-urgent surgeries for the past month due to the pandemic, but late last week received permission to start resuming them. Dominic Giroux, president and chief executive officer of Health Sciences North, said certain types of surgeries have longer wait lists than others. "Close to half of our wait list is in these two surgical subspecialties — orthopedics and ophthalmology. This being said, the increase in the surgical wait list at HSN is much smaller than what we're seeing in southern Ontario hospitals." Giroux said the surgical wait list is at about 4,000 patients.
