North Korea Fires at Least One Suspected Ballistic Missile

Japanese public broadcaster NHK said two missiles were fired in quick succession and both fell outside of Japan’s exclusive economic zone. Pyongyang has launched nearly two dozen ballistic missiles this year, the most launches it has conducted in a single year. The launches violate United Nations Security Council resolutions. But U.S.-led efforts to heap additional penalties on North Korea have been blocked by Russia and China, which advocate a relaxing of sanctions.
