A police officer was injured early on Saturday morning in Alexandra while assisting bar staff with an ‘‘upset and abusive’’ man. The officer sustained a broken rib and a sprained ankle, a police media spokeswoman said. A 28-year-old Hastings man appeared in the Queenstown District Court on Saturday and was remanded to reappear in the Alexandra District Court later this month. Police were called after the man allegedly became agitated when door staff refused to let him enter the bar. A police media statement said the man was intoxicated, and became upset and abusive when denied entry.
