A man has been left in a critical condition after an assault on a Whakatane street. St John ambulance staff were called to Louvain St at 11.02am on Wednesday after reports a serious assault had occurred. "One ambulance was dispatched and dealt with one patient," St John media spokesman Noel Gleeson said. Whakatane police said they were notified of the incident by St John and attended the scene to conduct investigations.
