Ontario to set targets for industries to cut carbon emissions

Ontario plans to cut carbon gas emissions by 30 per cent from 2005 levels by 2030, setting reduction targets for industries and encouraging private investments in clean technologies. Ontario will also parallel federal changes to the accelerated capital cost allowance, which will make technology investments in clean energy generation and energy conservation equipment more attractive. New Ontario Premier Doug Ford swept to power in June promising to overhaul the previous government’s clean energy plan, which he said was wasteful and drove up electricity prices. Under the previous government of Kathleen Wynne, the province’s commitment had been to cut emissions by 37 per cent, but that was from 1990 levels. By 2020, Wynne’s government had pledged to cut emissions by 15 per cent from 1990 levels.
