Pain of swab tests delays surgery

Till now, my child has not undergone the operation even though it could be done after doing a PCR test for Covid-19 and getting a negative result. For us as parents, knowing that his adenoids are already swollen, subjecting him to the swab would be a terrible evil. It is interesting to note that a PCR test before elective surgery is not required in some of our neighbouring countries like Singapore. If the whole country gets vaccinated by year’s end and this PCR test rule is only lifted by then, my child’s surgery would have been delayed by one year and nine months. Do we need this blanket PCR test rule for children, especially when they are already unwell and need surgery?
