Key requirements for the revival of the service have been completed, Karaismailoglu said. The rail route covers a total distance of 6,500km, with 1,990km in Pakistan, 2,600km in Iran and 1,950km in Turkey. Designed primarily for the transport of freight, the rail link will boost economic ties between, Pakistan, Iran and Turkey. The ITI framework was launched in 2009 as a project under the ECO, and the rail line has only been used for trial runs since.
