Lib Dem leadership candidate Sir Ed Davey has called for a permanent exhibition, accepting Parliament’s role in both developing and abolishing the slave trade. The House of Commons Commission said they did not know how many paintings of slave-owners were on display. In response Sir Ed said: "Parliament must recognise and tell its own shameful past in supporting the slave trade. "It is over 13 years since Parliament last held a public exhibition acknowledging its role in the slave trade. "A permanent educational exhibition of Parliament's role in both developing and abolishing the slave trade should be created that highlights both the positives and negatives of our history."
