KUALA LUMPUR: Pertubuhan Pribumi Perkasa Malaysia (Perkasa) has called on the Health Ministry to retract the decision to relax Bahasa Melayu requirements for qualified medical graduates, saying that such move contradicts the Federal Constitution. Failure to do so within seven days, the Malay rights group said it would bring the matter to court. Bahasa Melayu is the main language of the country. "The Ministry's statement can be considered as discrimination because other public services require its staff to pass the Bahasa Melayu papers in SPM." Health Ministry director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah had said recently that the Public Service Department had relaxed the BM requirement for qualified medical graduates to be appointed as Grade UD41 contract house/medical officers.
