KANGAR: A Perlis correctional centre warden has been detained for allegedly accepting RM3,300 in bribes to smuggle banned items for inmates in the prison. The 33-year-old was arrested when he turned up at the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) state headquarters at 7pm yesterday to have his statement recorded. A source with the MACC said the warden allegedly received several payments of between RM200 and RM1,500 totalling RM3,300, which were deposited into his bank account in March. The payments are believed to be inducements for him to smuggle banned items for inmates at the centre. Perlis MACC director Yaacob Angah confirmed the arrest, but declined to elaborate.
