ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan on Friday appointed Defence Minister Pervez Khattak to head the parliamentary committee formed to investigate allegations of rigging in the recently conducted general elections. An opposition member was not appointed as a chairman with Prime Minister Imran Khan having been advised by senior party leaders to withhold the chairmanship with the government. The ruling party and the opposition will submit names of their committee nominees to National Assembly Speaker Asad Qaiser. According to reports, Shireen Mazari, Shafqat Mehmood, Ali Muhammad Khan and Amir Dogar may also be included in the committee. Meanwhile, Tariq Bashir Cheema’s name has been put forward by the Pakistan Muslim League- Quaid (PML-Q).
