The veteran broadcaster - long been considered to be 'the voice of golf' - had been hospitalised in September, and news of his death will be greeted with huge sadness throughout the golf world. Barbara Slater, director of BBC Sport, said: "Peter was the voice of golf. Keith Pelley, Chief Executive Officer of the European Tour, added: “We are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Peter Alliss, truly one of golf’s greats. "Our thoughts are with his wife Jackie and the Alliss family.”
