PhilHealth launches ‘corporate-wide fraud detection’ scheme after dialysis messBy The Manila TimesECHOING the call of President Rodrigo Duterte, the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) announced over the weekend that it has launched a “corporate-wide intensive fraud detection” scheme to catch officials colluding with hospitals and other healthcare facilities in illegal activities. “Congress first pointed out in July last year that a ‘mafia’ exists in the state agency, and they meant these cheating and colluding officials. Their sustained but sporadic activities do not qualify them as ‘mafia’—but they can be called economic saboteurs,” he said. “Actually, we’re already in transition because of the Universal Health Care Law,” Domingo said. PhilHealth said last Thursday that it has filed 28 administrative cases against WellMed Dialysis and Laboratory Center in Quezon City for allegedly conducting a fraudulent scheme against the health insurance firm.
