Downtown Philadelphia (Matt Rourke/AP)For one day at least, there won’t be any traffic jams on nearly 10 miles of road in downtown Philadelphia. The effort, dubbed Philly Free Streets, will give people a chance to explore the city in a new way, organizers say. According to Philly.com, the route will run on South Street from Front Street to the Schuylkill River Trail, and from Martin Luther King Drive to the Falls Bridge. The city’s mayor, Jim Kenney, also is inviting folks to join him on a “power walk” along South Street. New York City has a summer street program in which portions of the city are closed off to vehicle traffic.
