Plan to hire 1,300 college teachers

Interviews will start as soon as requisitions are received by the West Bengal College Service Commission from 500-odd state-aided colleges, a senior official said on Thursday. This is the first known instance of entry-level teaching vacancies in state-aided colleges in Bengal being filled in consecutive years. The commission had last appointed lecturers - that was what entry-level college teachers used to be called - in 2008. There are currently around 14,000 sanctioned posts of teachers for 500-odd state-aided colleges. A source in the commission said the government's move to hire teachers in consecutive years would possibly be touted as an achievement in creating jobs before the rural polls.
