The historic bellwether state of Ohio is getting a moment in the spotlight as the host of the first presidential debate, briefly ending its unexpected exile to the margins of presidential politics. No Republican has ever won the presidency without Ohio, and no president since 1960 has been elected without the state. As of last week, the Biden campaign has spent $1.68 million on television in the state, compared with $3.49 million for the Trump campaign, according to data from a Democratic tracker. The Biden money has gone into the Toledo and Youngstown markets, which border Michigan and Pennsylvania. Most of the Trump money, by contrast, has gone into Cincinnati and Columbus, in the heart of the state, where Biden has yet to put any money on the air.
