The nation’s top two magazine printers, Quad Graphics and LSC Communications, announced this morning that Quad is acquiring LSC in an all-stock transaction valued at $1.4 billion, creating a combined company that would have had revenue of $8 billion through the first three quarters of 2018. It acquired Publishers Press, a 150-year-old family-owned mid-market magazine printer based in Lebanon Junction, Kentucky. In 2014, it acquired Brown Printing, a long-run magazine specialist for $100 million, and in 2010, it acquired World Color Press, another large magazine printer, for $1.3 billion. Based on the closing share prices of both companies on October 30, 2018, the merger represents a premium of 34% to LSC Communications shareholders. Joel Quadracci will be the chairman, president and CEO of the combined company.
