The velodrome was built to world-class specifications in 1995 by the same company that built the Athens Olympic Velodrome, and is considered the fastest in New Zealand. In its submission, the Whanganui velodrome development trust's budget shows it will be $2m short if it does not get the regional development fund money in 2018.
