Inserting a period into domain names cancels out YouTube ads SOPA Images/LightRocket via Getty ImagesRedditors have discovered a simple way to remove ads from YouTube videos by adding a period to the domain name. This seems to remove all pre-roll ads, ads that might appear midway through the video and advertising overlays. However, it failed in Firefox, where inserting the period simply returned me to the YouTube homepage. It has to be said, there are easier ways to block YouTube ads in web browsers. With YouTube advertising already suffering in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic, Google won’t want to make it any easier for viewers to dodge income-generating ads.
