Past safeguarding and misconduct cases in athletics are to be the subject of an independent, QC-led review, raising the possibility that previous sanctions could be increased to permanent bans from the sport. UK Athletics has secured the funding to revisit a number of cases amid concerns that the governing body may not have employed a tough enough stance in the past. It could mean coaches and other individuals who have been issued with bans will have them extended, perhaps even excluding them from the sport for life.
