The charity responsible for the upkeep of some of our most famous royal residences is facing financial ruin due to the pandemic. Historic Royal Palaces says it has lost 85 per cent of its annual income – about £96million. The organisation runs the public areas of the Tower of London, Hampton Court and Kensington Palace, where the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge live. It is slowly opening its outdoor public areas, such as the gardens at Hampton Court, as the Government relaxes regulations. And Mr Barnes said: 'Historic Royal Palaces is a self-funded charity.
