Saint John Transit heads toward deficit as ridership shrinks


Saint John Transit's new chief executive officer is predicting the service is heading for a deficit this year even with recently announced service cutbacks. The compromise comes after Red Head residents complained to east Saint John councillors David Merrithew and Ray Strowbridge. Sara Stashick has strong opinions on what Saint John Transit and city council should be doing. The consultant authored a 2012 Vibrant Communities report that looked at transit and its impact on Saint John through a poverty reduction lens. A restored, or even expanded transit service is not something, the transit corporation's CEO has ruled out.
