ScotRail fares to rise by 8.7% from April as SNP ministers 'rob the pockets' of passengers

Rail fares in Scotland will increase by 8.7% in April, SNP transport minister Fiona Hyslop has announced. However, there was some good news for travellers as the scrapping of peak rail fares was extended for a further three months. But Ms Hyslop told MSPs the freeze on rail fares – put in place to help Scots deal with the cost-of-living crisis – was now "unsustainable". From 1 April 2024, all ScotRail fares will increase by 8.7%. "Caledonian Sleeper fares will also increase by 8.7% and this will take effect from 1 January 2024.
