A strong rupee against the US dollar and persistent foreign capital inflows also supported the domestic equities, traders said. In a highly volatile session, the 30-share BSE Sensex ended 234.79 points or 0.39 per cent higher at 61,185.15. The broader NSE Nifty rose by 85.65 points or 0.47 per cent to end at 18,202.80 points. The market breadth was in favour of the bulls, with 18 of the 30 Sensex counters closing in the green. The rupee appreciated by 45 paise to close at 81.90 (provisional) against the US dollar on Monday.
