While the Nike ad sparked outrage since it featured controversial basketball player Colin Kaepernick, the D&G ad featured a Chinese woman struggling to eat Italian food with chopsticks. The Nike Kaepernick campaign scored points with millennials but alienated older, conservative customers. “It is important that shock advertising campaigns are well thought-out and executed. After pulling out such campaigns, brands should create newer campaigns, which support core human values.
