The government has urged businesses to support energy-saving measures while signalling possible adjustments ahead of Eid-ul-Azha. Power and Energy Minister Iqbal Hassan Mahmood Tuku made the call at a meeting with business leaders, including shop owners’ associations, at Bidyut Bhaban in Dhaka on Saturday. In response, the minister urged them to support the temporary measures and said their proposals would be considered. Under the decision, all markets, shops, and shopping malls must close by 6pm. The Bangladesh Shop Owners Association had called for a revision, proposing opening hours from 11am to 8pm.
