The polar blast brought snow to parts of Dunedin and Central Otago and a sleep-in for some Dunedin parents today. Otago Rugby Football Union community rugby manager Richard Perkins said fields were too sodden to be played on. MetService meteorologist Josh Griffin said a heavy snow warning had been issued for Central Otago from the Crown Range southwards. Dunedin residents would wake from a 3degC night, while Alexandra dropped to -2degC overnight. The icy blast was "pretty typical" for this time of year, Mr Griffin said.Snow was not forecast for the region next week.
