Sports lawyer questions controversial MFL move

KUALA LUMPUR: A sports lawyer has questioned the legal basis of the Malaysian Football League's (MFL) decision to allow four FIFA-suspended players to compete as local players. Sports lawyer Nik Erman Nik Roseli, in a social media post, questioned the reliance on Article 3.3 of the 2025-2026 M-League Manual, which allows player registration via a national registration identity card. "The RSTP relates to registration of players, registration period, transfer, etc. This concerns more of the administrative side of player registration. Nik Erman argued that greater weight should instead be given to FIFA's eligibility regulations, particularly those outlined in the Regulations Governing the Application of the Statutes (RGAS).
