Janice Hopkins Tanne New YorkMarc Tessier-Lavigne, president of Stanford University in California, has announced that he was stepping down as president at the end of August but would remain a tenured professor of biology. Former dean of humanities Richard Saller will serve as interim president.1Tessier-Lavigne, a well known neurobiologist, served as Stanford president for seven years and previously was head of the biotechnology company Genentech.
