Leading state corporations, government agencies and private developers owe Uasin Gishu county a staggering Sh22 billion in unpaid land rates. Mandago asked for three weeks to update the county's rates register to come up with a full list of the national government agencies and private developers who owe the devolved unit billions in land rates. Mandago said the Kenya Railways Corporation alone owes the devolved unit a whopping Sh2.2 billion. But Nyamira Senator Kennedy Mong'are cautioned the county government against clamping down state buildings saying that would lead to a dangerous clash between the two levels of government. Committee vice chairman John Lonyangapuo suggested that the county clamps down all government buildings to force the national government to pay rates.
