The aspirant, who is son of Ford Kenya Nominated MP Patrick Wangamati, said that he was determined to serve residents diligently. The Ford Kenya party leader added that the Senate has been looking into how the Governor's administration spent public funds on things that cannot be accounted for. Bungoma Senator Moses Wetang'ula has backed Wycliffe Wangamati's bid for the county's top seat in the 2017 general election. Consumer Federation of Kenya secretary general Stephen Mutoro has also set his eyes on the governor seat through Ford Kenya. Wetangula accused Governor Kenneth Lusaka of "ridiculing the county locally and globally" through the many scandals unearthed in his administration.
