Meet Ashwini Vaishnaw, who has taken over as the new Union Minister for Communications, Electronics and Information Technology, and Railways. In 2019, he joined the BJP and became a Rajya Sabha MP with support from the BJD. Taking to Twitter Wednesday, Vaishnaw thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi “for giving me the opportunity to serve the nation as Union Minister”. His first task, after appointment as Law Minister in 2014, was the ambitious overhaul of judicial appointments through the National Judicial Appointments Commission. In 2018, the Law Ministry raised objections over the elevation of Justice KM Joseph citing issues of seniority and regional representation.
