Stolen Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) materials worth over Sh1 million were on Saturday found at the home of Naromoru MCA Martin Matu. "The materials were stolen from Nairobi SGR yard. The MCA has been asked to report to the DCI railways on Monday," the DCI said in a tweet. In May 2017, while launching Madaraka Express in Mombasa, President Uhuru Kenyatta warned that SGR vandals will be charged with a capital offence. Inspector General Joseph Boinnet had also warned against and forms of vandalism or theft of SGR materials, an act they said amounts to economic sabotage.
