Supreme Court notices to Centre, Puducherry on tsunami funds

The bench admitted the PIL and issued notices to the Puducherry government and the Centre, asking them to respond in four weeks. The Supreme Court on Monday sought replies from the Puducherry government and the Centre on a PIL that has alleged corruption in utilisation of funds given to the state in the wake of the 2004 tsunami. “Available records show Rs 524 crore missing from books. This court has to intervene in public interest,” he said. T Murugan, a CPM member, stated in his PIL that RTI replies showed that the total financial assistance received by the Puducherry government for relief and rehabilitation was Rs 763.981 crores and the whole amount was reportedly spent.
