The Otago Regional Council said the visual appearance of the cyanobacteria put the lake at warning levels. Detailed results of tests would be available on Wednesday but it was recommended that people avoid contact recreation in the lake in the meantime. The statement says signs that a dog has been poisoned by toxic algae can include lethargy, muscle tremors, fast breathing, twitching, paralysis and convulsions.
