Syeda Zakia Nur Lipi Dhaka TribuneThe constituency fell vacant after the death of former Awami League general secretary Syed Ashraful IslamDr Syeda Zakia Nur Lipi, younger sister of late public administration minister Syed Ashraful Islam, has submitted the nomination form she collected from Awami League to run for the Kishoreganj 1 seat. Syeda Zakia submitted the form to the returning officer Md Jahirul Islam on Wednesday in the presence of party leaders and activists, reports UNB. The constituency fell vacant after the death of former Awami League general secretary Syed Ashraful Islam who was re-elected MP from the constituency in the December 30 national election. Their father Syed Nazrul Islam, the acting President of Bangladesh during the Liberation War, was among four national leaders who were killed in jail in 1975. On January 22, the Election Commission had announced that the re-election in the Kishoreganj 1 constituency will be held on February 28.
