PETALING JAYA: World champions mixed doubles pair Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei lived up to expectations by advancing to the second round of the Asian Championships after defeating Japan’s Haruki Kawabe-Kokona Ishikawa on Tuesday (April 7). Playing at the Ningbo Olympic Sports Center, Tang Jie-Ee Wei cruised past the world No. 138 with a 21-10, 21-10 win in just 36 minutes. The eighth seeds will take on either Bangladesh’s Jumar Al-Amin-Urmi Akter or Taiwan’s Chen Cheng-kuan-Hsu Yin-hui in the second round. The duo opened strongly by defeating Macau’s Ng Weng Chi-Pui Chi Wa 21-11, 21-10 before overcoming Thailand’s Phattarin Aiamvareesrisakul-Sarisa Janpeng 21-9, 21-13.
