Tebboune has wrapped up a visit to Russia during which he contradicted himself and drew mockery due to his clumsy praise of Putin. Tebboune kept speaking about his country as a partner of Russia wherein fact it is a pure client of Russian armament. But for a military regime in quest for international recognition, Tebboune’s visit was sold as a breakthrough and an evidence of the grandeur of oil and gas-dependent Algeria. Tebboune offered a solace for an isolated Putin and returned with nothing a part from a sidelining with a sanctioned Russia and empty promises. Russia considers Algeria as a client and a vassal and this has been reflected in Tebboune’s visit.
