A temporary increase in rainfall is expected in the southwestern areas today (08) and tomorrow (09). The Meteorological Department states that showers will occur at times in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and North Western provinces as well as in the Galle, Matara, Nuwara Eliya and Kandy districts. Showers or thundershowers will occur at a few places in the Uva and Eastern Provinces during the evening or night. Heavy showers of more than 100 mm will occur at some places in the Galle, Matara, Kalutara and Ratnapura districts. Winds will increase at times in the western slopes of the Central Hills, North, North Central and North Western Provinces and in the Hambantota and Trincomalee Districts.
