The opposite of love isn’t hate, it’s indifference. Hate is a form of love, since you can’t hate what you haven’t previously loved, or which hasn’t hurt, wounded or threatened that which you love. Hate breeds hate, just as love breeds love. It’s love humiliated, made to crawl, love whose spirit is broken. Because the opposite of love isn’t hate.
