The WE Charity scandal wiped out Ottawa’s jobs program for students last summer. Where did the money go — and will it be available this year?
The proposed plan includes waiving interest on student loan repayments for an extra year, doubling nonrepayable Canada Student Grants and funding new job placements for the Canada Summer Jobs Program. Last month, Employment Minister Carla Qualtrough announced that more than 150,000 jobs available through that program were open to applicants this year. Last summer, the association compiled a list of recommendations about where the funds from the shelved CSSG program should be directed.
