It can be hard, after the year we’ve all had, not to feel like you deserve a glass of wine or two when 5pm rolls around. Yet after a year in lockdown, it seems, we no longer know our limits. Last week the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) published a report into global drinking habits placing the UK 16th in the table of 52 countries and warned that our drinking habits are putting a huge burden on society and the NHS. It follows research by psychiatrists at King’s College London who found that lockdown has led to an increase in alcohol addiction among the baby-boomer generation, with some drinking the equivalent of a bottle of wine a day.
