Instead of presenting Sherlock Holmes as the already brilliant master of deduction, Young Sherlock begins much earlier. "I was always fascinated by what made the man who becomes Sherlock Holmes," Parkhill explained. The series takes inspiration from the Young Sherlock Holmes written by Andrew Lane, though Parkhill ultimately decided to chart his own path. "The first Sherlock Holmes story is A Study In Scarlet," he explained. The showrunner also revealed that the story had been planned with a longer arc in mind.
